Finite Element Analysis of Pressure Vessel Nozzles (Inlet, Outlet & Drain)

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of pressure vessel nozzles to evaluate stress distribution and structural integrity under operating conditions as per ASME standards.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of Inlet Nozzle A, Outlet Nozzle B, and Drain Nozzle D has been carried out in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1 (Edition 2023). The primary objective of this analysis is to evaluate stress distribution and structural integrity at nozzle-to-shell junctions under various loading conditions.

A detailed 3D model was developed using SolidWorks 2019, and the simulation was performed in ANSYS Workbench 19.2. The analysis methodology follows ASME Section VIII, Division 2, Part 5.2 guidelines for protection against plastic collapse.

The study includes geometry modeling, mesh generation, application of boundary conditions, and multiple load cases such as internal pressure (MAWP), nozzle loads, and thrust forces. Stress results are evaluated using equivalent (von Mises) stress criteria and compared with allowable limits specified in ASME Division 2.

The results highlight critical stress regions, particularly at nozzle junctions, ensuring the design meets safety and compliance requirements.
